(More customer reviews)This is my baby, my one great deal. I own a sterrett micrometer (CAT No. 230) as well as other starrett tools and have chosen random things to test my caliper when I got it (with the micrometer as the standard). Well after spending the better part of an after noon I found it to be vary accurate throughout the range. Throughout the range it was off an avg of .0002 to .0005 I noticed it veering tords about .0007 off every now and then. I didn't just measure close to the body I went to the end of the jaw where the knive edges are too. As long as you don't use too much force there is probly no more than a minus .0001 .0002 deference. This is better than most of the under $40 or non metal ones I've tried. There are much cheaper ones that are accurate plus/minus .001 to .0015 but they just don't seem to stay that way if your rough with them. Even this economy model with the plastic dial face cover is still about as accurate today as when I bout it on sale from starrett over a year ago ($65 YEAH BOY!!!). I use it about every weekend on little projects here and there in the garage and to measure parts for lawnmowers. I've dropped the thing a few times and had stuff rotate buy accident in the jaws but it's still accurate to about .001 or slightly less throughout the range. I thought about getting their 120 model with the crystal, but knew it would get scratched anyway so I went with the much cheaper 1202 and am vary pleased with it. It also comes with (should come with) a quality control card singed personally buy the inspector and a nice plastic case with a somewhat fitted hard foam.
I wouldn't buy off here until you check some local tool retailers or other web sites, you should be able to get it under $100.
