(More customer reviews)For one simple reason, buy eye it can be difficult to actually tell what you're looking at beyond 1/50" (at least for me anyway) without magnification. Therefore you don't need high precision on spacing this large. I never have understood why they (or any other quality precision tool co) put venire quality into a slide rule, you simple don't need it. I also never got why anyone puts 1/100 grad on straight rules, you just can`t be that accurate reliably buy hand... When you start getting that small (1/50" and beyond) you would more than likely be getting into +/- .010~.005 tolerance or more witch you can not do reliably with a slide rule. In that case you would only use this to quickly check if you're getting close, which I have had no problem doing with my 1202 Starrett caliper. This is also one of the main reasons you don't see divisions beyond 1/25~1/50 on venire calipers and micrometers most of them are 1/25~1/50. Some vary small ones have 1/10~1/20 and some vary large ones have 1/100 this is because it's visually difficult to tell if you're graduations are lining up with the base mark with divisions smaller then 1/50 without magnification or used on a larger tool. I have seen 1/100 divisions on some 48" + venire calipers for example, the venire is big enough you can see those markings at that division on a tool that size.
"someonesdad" also makes a good point on the graduations, something of this quality I would like to have seen something similar to an No.6R (1/10 and 1/50 grad) or No.3R (1/10, 1/50, 1/32 and 1/64 grad) design as an option to just 1/32,1/64~1/64,1/2MM.
I'm not saying it's not worth the money, I'm saying you could more then likely go much, much cheaper and find something of the same visual accuracy for this style of graduation.
