(More customer reviews)Ordered this from Amazon and got it a couple days ago. This is my first digital caliper, so I don't have much of a basis to compare it against, but I did research a lot of reviews from owners of other companies' offerings, so I have some idea of what to look for.
The build quality of this unit is very good. It feels rock solid, with no play mechanically or digitally. Once I zeroed out the unit, I tested it by sliding it out (mine read all the way out to 6.0570 inches) and then back to its rest position. Every time it read 0.0000 inches at the rest position and the aforementioned 6.0570 inches at its maximum position, indicating excellent repeatability and therefore implied (relative) accuracy within that range. It is capable of providing readings in inches, millimeters, and fractional values, the latter of which would be useful for woodworkers.
The unit comes in a nice case with foam padding, and even has storage space for an extra cell battery (provided!). Instructions are somewhat sparse, and allude to the caliper being able to interface (via USB, presumably) with a computer, but a closer examination of the circuit board indicates that this feature was not included. To be fair, the caliper was not advertised as having such an interface feature.
This caliper is certainly more than accurate enough for wood work, with readings to four decimal spaces on the inch setting and two decimal spaces on the millimeter setting. Fractional readings are displayed at maximum resolution of 128th inch. The further out one goes, the more chance one encounters statistical inaccuracies, but so far this unit has showed excellent repeatability in my measuring trials.
I don't know how this tool will perform in extreme conditions of heat/cold, but if it holds up over time, it's a steal at this price.
