The item does appear like the picture, and except for the 'feeling' that the spring is wound very taught when extended, it does extend to 36" (and a tiny bit more - at most 98cm - certainly NOT 1M).
(The case shape is unlikely to be useful in measuring a total length - some tapes are marked with width to assist in a slightly longer measure - this case has no mark for this purpose.)
It has inches on one side of the 1/4" tape and cm/mm on the other.
Not a bad item unless you were misreading the ad as I apparently was and either thought you could measure 1M OR that you'd be getting a pack of 2.
