(More customer reviews)I am building a 6,700 square foot home in Arizona. Most of the rooms have at least two 45 degree 'corners', making it very hard to do the layout. The perimeter of the house has 26 each 90 degree corners and 21 each 45 degree corners. The house has 'bump-outs' for the great room, front room, office and master bedroom. The concrete contractor was pulling his hair out. Once he laid out all the work points for the perimeter of the house pad, I used the laser to correct them.
This unit is more accurate than a metal tape measure for all those distances over 35 feet long. I used a tripod that had a 1/4 inch diameter threaded connection directly over the center of the legs. I then attached a plumb bob to the center tube. I placed a laser detector plate (I also own a CST/Berger 57-ALHVPKG Electronic Self Leveling Horizontal and Vertical Rotary Laser) at the farthest apart points of the house, creating a permanent "Check Point". Using dimensions from AutoCAD, I could then correct all the work points within 1/16 of an inch.
The problem that most people complain about when using a laser level, is that they get different measurements with repeated uses. The problem is not the unit, but trying to hold it still while taking the measurement. When using a tripod, there was not a chance of movement. As I would verify the dimensions, I would consistantly rechecked the results. Using the laser detector, the measurements were within (+ or -) 1/16 inches of the first dimension.
Using the same two check points, we also laid out the driveway, walkways, pool and pool house. This unit is much easier to use and has many more features than the less expensive DLR135, DLR165 units. I received a DLR135 as a bonus when I bought the CST/Berger. It is nice for what it is, but I needed the longer distance model.
I would definitely recommend this item.
