(More customer reviews)I had never seen this type of caliper outside a catalog before, so I didn't know what to expect. However, the price was right, and I had thought that the Rockler name was an indication of quality. Also, like many others, I'm sort of nuts about tools, and I thought that if it turned out to be unsatisfactory it would still be an interesting addition to my collection. Anyway, I now know that I have to keep shopping for another caliper, probably one of those digital dial ones that can also read fractions. The thing about this thickness gauge is that it's only good for thicknesses of 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 1-3/4, and 2 inches. With these thicknesses, there is absolute certainty. You line up the holes on the two pieces of the meter and there you are. However, for all other thicknesses, you have to make an educated estimate ("guess" is too strong a word). Not satisfactory, in my opinion. I just wonder if all thickness gauges of this type have the same defect.
