(More customer reviews)I measured the diameter of an exacto blade holder to be 7/16 (accurate, but not readily apparent since the end points are significantly rounded top and bottom) using the closed end (bigger prongs).
With the open end I measured the diameter of a hole punched in a ruler. The open end read as 9/32 but physically measuring the ends with a separate ruler (3 actually) showed the true diameter to be 10/32.
Basically it's not a precision tool but would certainly be sturdy in a kids backpack. The lock works well.
