(More customer reviews)I'm torn between three and four stars. I guess what it lacks in accuracy can be made up for by the fact that it cost so little. For lot layout and grading work, this is definitely a good tool at a bargain price. But you'll need something much more accurate for laying out construction lines. This level has, as do most levels, a ring with one degree marks. But better levels have marks to get within 15 minutes or, at the extreme, down to even 2 seconds.
When trying to mark a line on a 22.5 degree turn, just as a test, I made my mark, turned the level away from the mark and then went back to the same 22.5 degrees again, as closely as I could interpolate between the 22 and 23 degree lines. When I shot the line, I was 3 inches off from the first mark at 40 feet out. That would be an expensive mistake in construction.
On close examination, you can see that the spacing of the lines around the base are not consistent, either. There are gradients for 10 degrees, for each 5 degrees, and then for each single degree - yielding 4 lines between each 5-degree line. In various 5-degree segments, the spacing of the four lines in between are not only inconsistent, they are inconsistent between 5-degree sections - so much that it is obvious to the naked eye - and really obvious when examined with a magnifying glass.
So, if you want something within the limitations of this unit - something for grade work or general excavation work or other work where a couple inches don't matter - then this is an excellent bargain. If you need construction grade accuracy, look for something else.
